Schumacher Homes is an "on-your-lot" builder- customers are expected to find and purchase their own building site (land); but they do offer an in-house financing solution (Triad Mortgage) . Their business model involves establishing a local presence through a staffed "design center". These centers serve as a place for potential customers to view the product line act as a service location for the balance of the building process. Schumacher Homes was the first to implement Online Design , a process that allows a potential customer to make any number of changes to a base house plan's design before (or after) deciding to purchase a home. The company encourages potential customers to compare product offerings fairly before making a decision. On their website, [1], they offer a process to get a detailed quote within a few minutes. This "Quote My Home Now" process is not fully automated- it requires a callback from a salesperson; but the quote is extremely detailed (ex. exact dollar value for plumbing fixtures) and usually takes less than 15 minutes from the time it's requested.
