Polistes bellicosus is a relatively large wasp related to the fuscatus but with a more reddish body but males have yellow spots on their abdomen. They usually have small nests for their size, but they are like most american wasps, because they have mediu to large round nests or cone shape. Unlike most polistes wasps, Polistes bellicosus has a thick waist, making their abdomens hold in one place.
