Regular time (also called Regulation time) is the scheduled length of a hockey match. At the professional level, Regulation time consists of three 20 minute periods. At lower levels, the length of the period may be shortened. If the game is tied at the end of the third period, the game will go into either overtime, shoot-out, or a combination of both.
