The M622 Cougar was an AFV utilized by the UNSC during the Insurrection and Human-Covenant War. It gained notoriety in the years leading up to the Human-Covenant War, where it was used to great effect in urban combat against Insurrectionist forces. However, it proved much less effective against the Covenant, despite that the Cougar's powerful weapons could tear through even the armor of a Wraith, as even Covenant plasma-based small arms easily billowed and punched holes in its armor. Because of this, it was retired in 2541 by the Marine Corps, after years of limited use. The Army continued operating the Cougar until 2550.
