The 2007 Dodge Avenger 500 was a Nextel Cup (now Sprint Cup) event held at Darlington Raceway on May 13, 2007. Jeff Gordon was riding a hot streak, but when his final run resulted in an overheating engine, Gordon stayed cool and held off Denny Hamlin for the victory. It was the fifth (of five) victory for Hendrick Motorsports in the COT events, the ninth win in the last ten events for the Hendrick, and Gordon's third victory in the last four races. Hamlin was furious, leading the most laps but having late pit woes and no cautions to aid him. Gordon's point lead was now 233 markers on Jimmie Johnson (3rd). Stats
