Influenza is a supervillian, the number 4 biodevisor on Trin and MacIntyre 's list. Jobe thinks Influenza is no better than the Bulgarian bio-war labs, except that he actually uses his plagues. He seems to be focusing on Europe.

  • Influenza was a disease from Earth that once caused a global pandemic. Stargate Command used influenza as a cover story for the Ori plague that was released on Earth. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1", "The Fourth Horseman, Part 2") The inhabitants of M33-985 was once infected with an outbreak very similar to the influenza, but a milder version. (SGA: "Tracker")
  • Influenza, often shortened to the flu, was a type of Earth virus. Some strains of the disease are known to be particularly deadly. As a very common disease, some references to the disease may reflect a confusion of the symptoms or a misuse of the term.
  • The word "Influenza", more commonly known by its clever nickname, the "flu", is a disorder originating from the orient which refers to an illness caused by foreign genetic tinkering with viruses. As a result, the evolving strains in question have adapted, even mutated into contaminants capable of thriving in temperatures above 175 degrees F and below 45 F for 3 weeks. They tend to survive on cold desk tops, toilet seats, and everywhere in the average work/shopping environment.
  • Influenza is an infectious disease caused by a virus. Its most famous connection to hockey came during the epidemic of 1918-1919. Joe Hall of the Montreal Canadiens died during the 1919 Stanley Cup Finals in Seattle. His death caused the cancellation of the series and the Stanley Cup was not awarded that season.
  • Influenza is an infectious disease of birds and mammals caused by an RNA virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae. Typically, influenza is transmitted from infected mammals through the air by coughs or sneezes, creating aerosols containing the virus, and from infected birds through their droppings. Infections occur through contact with these bodily fluids or with contaminated surfaces. Flu viruses can remain infectious for over 30 days at 0°C (32°F), about one week at human body temperature, and indefinitely at very cold temperatures. Flu spreads around the world in seasonal epidemics, killing millions of people in pandemic years and hundreds of thousands in non-pandemic years. • Influenza is a very contagious viral disease. Almost everyone exposed to the disease who has not been recently vaccinated will develop symptoms, however in most patients they are mild and the patient recovers with simple care like replacing fluids. However, influenza is often fatal to the elderly or those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, such as asthma.
  • Suddenly it hits me, and this is it, this is IT. I feel that slick, sour spit coat my throat, my belly tightening up as I push my head over the bowl and spit. For a split second before I explode, I realize this thing has not been cleaned in a while. Then I vomit. Hard. Mucus-rich and acidic, it pours out in a hard, jetting stream from my mouth and nose, burning my nasal passages like fire. It hits so hard, it feels like it should be coming out my eyes, too. I feel so empty.
  • In humans, common symptoms of the disease are chills, fever, pharyngitis, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort. In more serious cases, influenza causes pneumonia, which can be fatal, particularly in young children and the elderly. Although it is often confused with the common cold, influenza is a much more severe disease and is caused by a different type of virus.
  • Influenza, known colloquially as the flu, was a common Human disease, causing fever, congestion, and other symptoms. It was caused by a virus. Common treatments included Tryptophan-lysine distillate and Pulaski's chicken soup. Similar ailments included Toluncan ague. A crewmember on USS Enterprise-D came down with a flu virus after the ship stopped at Nasreldine. (TNG: "The Icarus Factor" ) The isolated USS Voyager was known to have a flu season, when the flu was more communicable. (VOY: "Virtuoso")
  • On Earth in the 16th century the Spanish expedition to Mexico led by Hernán Cortés triggered a pandemic when they introduced the flu virus to the New World. (ST - Destiny novel: Mere Mortals) The USS Voyager was known to have suffered a regular flu season. At every occurrence of this Neelix would become convinced that he was suffering from Toluncan ague - The Doctor prescribed him a placebo to treat his condition. (VOY episode: "Virtuoso")

Although it is often confused with the common cold, influenza is a much more severe disease and is caused by a different type of virus. Surgical Face Mask are widely used in Asian countries like Vietnam is common to see people wearing a face mask while riding a motorcycle, however with the recent outbreak of H1N1 proper use was neglected with many times of face mask available in the market there are confusion of the types of face mask to be used. A NGO Nha Bao Co LTD I CARE has launched a national wide awareness program on proper use of face mask in the country to prevent the infection of H1N1.

Three influenza pandemics occurred in the 20th century—each following a major genetic change in the virus—and killed tens of millions of people. Often, these pandemics result from the spread of a flu virus between animal species. Since it first killed humans in Asia in the 1990s a deadly avian strain of H5N1 has posed the greatest influenza pandemic threat. Vaccinations against influenza are most common in high-risk humans in industrialised countries and farmed poultry. The most common human vaccine is the trivalent flu vaccine that contains purified and inactivated material from three viral strains.

Mucus-rich and acidic, it pours out in a hard, jetting stream from my mouth and nose, burning my nasal passages like fire. It hits so hard, it feels like it should be coming out my eyes, too. I vomit again and again, the third time bringing up just some thin, reeking slime, and I gasp a bit, getting my breath back before the next wave. I pitch forward again, eyes tearing as they squeeze shut, and I feel another hot jet of filth pour out. Opening my eyes, it seems different. A tarry black, and there are…things bobbing in it. I don't have time to look too hard, before two more hard retches double me over the bowl. These are more pinkish, and I can definitely see some kind of meat in these. Hamburger, maybe… More vomit, more oddness. I don't remember eating any kind of jelly, especially cherry. It's starting to hurt, a deep spike each time. God, how much can a person throw up? When did I eat noodles that long or that big? The goo in it is getting thicker too. And pink. Starting to feel at least a little better. Ugh. When did I eat a balloon? My belly is feeling better now, really light. Jesus. Whatever that was is floating still. Almost looks like it's pulsing, or beating. Going to have to move to the sink. Toilet's almost full. Feeling better now. Hungry, actually. Very hungry. Starving. Ravenous. I feel so empty. Almost everyone exposed to the disease who has not been recently vaccinated will develop symptoms, however in most patients they are mild and the patient recovers with simple care like replacing fluids. However, influenza is often fatal to the elderly or those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, such as asthma. Influenza mutates very quickly and, as such, having the disease is no guarantee that the patient will not contract another strain of the disease at a later date. The flu shot is tailored every year for the most common strains in circulation at the time. Despite being easy to prevent and its lack of severe symptoms in most patients, influenza is one of the contagious diseases that kills the most people every year. By way of comparison, during Toronto's SARS crisis, more people actually died of influenza than SARS in Toronto during the period where the mortality rate from SARS was the highest.
