  • The New Republic Department of Research and Development (also known as New Republic Research and Development and previously known as Rebel Alliance Research and Development) was a department of the New Republic responsible for developing technology for use by the New Republic. One of their main functions was the design and manufacture of useful droids for the use of Alliance Intelligence/New Republic Intelligence and the Alliance Military/New Republic Defense Force. Like the droids designed by the Imperial Department of Military Research, these units were normally progammed with fail-safe commands preventing them from acting in a manner which could harm the Rebellion or the New Republic. The department's fate following the reorganization of the New Republic into the Galactic Alliance is currently unknown.
