It has been compared favorably to Mandalorian Iron, both in durability and in the relative lightness of the finished product. Lin Steel is capable of withstanding the power of a lightsaber or a blaster bolt. The formula for Lin Steel was devised in the early days of the Linshi, during a time when the Jedi were transitioning from swords to early lightsabers. In order to keep pace, the mastercrafters of the Linshi studied with the Jedi to learn how their swords could withstand the energy of a lightsaber. Over the many centuries that have followed, the Linshi have made only a few slight changes to the original formula as it has needed little improvement. While it is a custom for the monks to forge their own weapons when they reach the apprentice level, only mastercrafters know the secret of creating Lin Steel. The metal is already in the forge and ready to be crafted by the time an apprentice arrives.
