Water can be pasteurized in black pots or jars in solar cookers using a batch process where once the water has reached pasteurization temperature (65 °C (149 °F)), the jars and pots are removed from the cooker and allowed to cool down before drinking. A flow-through pasteurization device, however, can pasteurize more water in a given time period for the following reasons:
