The Red Mountains of north-eastern Varisia are technically part of the Kodar range, but are different enough in character that they are given a separate name. Located north of the Velashu River and west of the Lurkwood, they are some of the shortest of Varisia's highlands. The soil is often a dark red due to its rich iron deposits. The mountains are mined by a few determined miners and used by a handfull of herdsmen who often combine forces to fend off attacks by the violent barbarians of the Nolands. These attacks have become more frequent and organized of late, and the people of the Red Mountains are beginning to get worried.

  • The Red Mountains were a mountain range on an unnamed planet that was home to a pre-Hebitian culture thousands of years prior to the 24th century. These people dug a series of tunnels under the Red Mountains, where they buried their royal dead. Also beneath the Red Mountains was the Well of Souls, where the dithparu were held, unable to escape without a humanoid host. The name "Red Mountains" had been long forgotten by the time the burial chambers were rediscovered in 2336. (TLE novel: Well of Souls)
  • The Red Mountains is a mountain range extended over much of the southern region of Westeros. It divides Dorne from the Stormlands and from The Reach. It is inhabited by stony Dornishmen, known for having light skin, any color hair, and violet eyes. The two passes through the Red Mountains are Prince's Pass and the Boneway.
  • In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the Red Mountains are a formidable obstacle to travel between Dorne and the rest of Westeros. The northern face of the range is scattered with castles designed to defend against Dornish raids. This area is called the Dornish Marches and is part of the Stormlands. The Red Mountains are noted as being visible from both the Tower of Joy and also Summerhall. They are so-called for the red-colored stone prevalent in the region.
  • The Red Mountains (Orocarni) are a mountain range in the far east of Middle-earth within Rhûn. They are rich in almost all ores (excluding Mithril which is only found in the Misty Mountains and Meneltarma, Edhelmir which can only be found in Lindon and Lothlórien, and Lapis Lazuli, which is only found in Near Harad and Harondor), containing twice as many ores than most other Biomes. The Red Mountains consist of normal stone and a red stone called Sarngaran beneath a layer of red sand. From this stone, bricks and other building blocks can be made.

The Showdown at the Red Mountains was the last engagement of Robert's Rebellion, a civil war that divided the Seven Kingdoms and led to the fall of the Targaryen dynasty and the rise of the Baratheon dynasty.

At y = 90 and below, grass blocks will generate, with trees such as larch, maple, and spruce. High up in the mountains, snow will generate. Mobs found here (Cows, Boars, etc.) can spawn at higher levels than the grass blocks. When you enter this Biome, you get the achievement "Mountains of the East". This Biome does not yet have any Fast Travel point as the Far East has not yet been thoroughly worked on. The sky in this biome is tinged a pale red colour. The Orocarni follows the new mountain generation style, such as its sister, the Ered Luin.
