It is not to be confused with the somewhat closely related "Traditional" Hot Rod, which is an accurate re-creation or period-correct restoration of a Hot Rod from the same era. The Rat Rod is the visualization of the idea of function over form including the creative use of spare parts, or parts from another car altogether. Rat Rods are meant to be driven, not shown off.
- This style is inspired by the American Hot Rod culture. As the Deuce and other Fords from the 1920s and 1930s, the Beetle is a very popular car to customize and it was only a matter of time before someone was to turn one into a hot rod. The Rat Rod is closer to the Classic Hot Rod from the 1950s and 1960s. Some of the most common features are:
* No fenders
* Flat Black paint with some white or red pin-strip. The Rat Rod can have surface rust.
* White wall tires on red wheels
* A chopped top

- The Rat Rod buggy is a vehicle added to RAGE in the Anarchy Edition and Campaign Edition. Unlike the Dune Buster buggy that is very common in the Wasteland, this vehicle is unique. It shares the high speed and maneuverability with the Dune Buster, and also can take 50% more damage which makes the car the best choice until the Cuprino is available. Just like the Dune Buster, the Rat Rod can enter the Buggy class races. This vehicle is only available after completing the quest "Renting a Garage".
