Sarra Vall knew almost nothing outside life in Imperial service—be it of the Imperial Remnant or the Stellar Imperium. When she made the choice to leave it, though, the choice came to fruition—not in the way she had hoped, although perhaps in the way she had guessed. Sarra Vall was born on Coruscant around 15 BBY, entering adulthood around the time of Emperor Palpatine's death. She worked quietly in Imperial laboratories, often not fully understanding why she was asked to create a particular type of toxin or study the physiology of various alien species.

  • Sarra Vall knew almost nothing outside life in Imperial service—be it of the Imperial Remnant or the Stellar Imperium. The fearful woman, never having the backbone to tell anyone "no" and lacking the social graces or Force powers needed to say "no" and make the other person think it was their own idea, went with her superiors without question. She followed Lady Lumiya, the student of Darth Vader, after Lumiya stopped directly harassing the Jedi and set up shop on Cyalax. Sarra continued her work, and was one of the people who worked on a secret virus on Dantooine, which was intended to destroy midichlorians and take the Force away from the Jedi without killing anyone directly. The initial virus killed mitochondria and midichlorians alike, and was extremely contagious and always fatal. Another scientist accidentally let it escape on Dantooine, and all life on the planet was wiped out. The virus spread from there to the Doldur asteroid belt, the Chery system, and a few other places. Sarra and most of the other scientists survived by self-inoculation long before the virus escaped. The Cyalax virus was eventually perfected and unleashed on the Jedi on Coruscant. Sarra, by this time, had returned to Cyalax, and was one of two workers who went into the lab supply room to secure it when an intruder broke into the complex. Jaina Solo, however, was hiding in the supply room, and threatened Sarra and the other scientist, Perroc, so that they would give her information and take her to Lumiya. They initially refused, but Jaina fought Perroc and severely mutilated him by burning off most of his face with her lightsaber. Sarra, near panic, agreed to do whatever Jaina wanted, which included giving Jaina the vaccine against the Cyalax virus and a few additional samples of the vaccine to distribute to others. Sarra was working out in her mind whether or not to commit treason by taking Jaina to Lumiya, or risk Jaina's wrath by refusing. Her decision was delayed when Welk arrived in the system, but it turned out to only be Jaina's friends—Zekk, Tahiri Veila, and Valin Horn. Jaina argued with them, gave them the vaccines, and took Sarra back on her way. Sarra took Jaina as far as Lumiya's doors and fled. However, she made up her mind then to defect to the New Republic, after realizing that Jaina was right and the Stellar Imperium had gone too far. Jaina almost defeated Lumiya, but Welk and Darth Inferna came to Lumiya's aid and Jaina's only recourse was escape. Sarra helped Jaina navigate the air vents in the complex to avoid Lumiya and her troopers, and they reached the hangar alive. Jaina had promised to take Sarra to Coruscant in her X-wing (both women were small and could fit in the cockpit, although it would have been cramped), and all they had to do was deactivate the laser grid that the X-wing was kept "locked up" behind so that they could make their escape. Jaina ran towards the ship while Sarra raced to the panel to shut down the grid. She managed to do so and head for the X-wing, but Lumiya's troopers shot her down before she got there, and Sarra died in the hangar. Jaina was able to get away.
