The project started in November 2006 and was run in the New Haven Public Library of Connecticut until June 2007. A series of four CCP workshops was held for children at the Dixwell-Yale Community Learning Center in May 2007. In Pennsylvania, the CCP has held sessions with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, Boys & Girls Club, Human Service Center, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, Northland Library, and others. Since its first workshop on November 29, 2006, the comic project has been featured in the Yale Daily News, New Haven Advocate, and New Haven Register. The CCP is supported by many notable comic creators, including Jeph Jacques, David Willis, and Kazu Kibuishi. The project is currently the most widely supported program of its kind in the nation. In 2009, the CCP was awarded a Star of Distinction from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the Pittsburgh community - the first and only children's program to be recognized in this fashion. The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH), American Public Health Association (APHA), and Society of Public Health Education (SOPHE) have all recognized the program for its educational benefits.
