The Mammal Paleogene zones or MP zones are divisions of the Paleogene period developed by Matthijs Freudenthal in 2006 to help paleontologists provide more specific reference points to geological periods in Europe, but are used by other paleontologists as well. MP 1 is the earliest zone, and MP 30 is the most recent. Since their establishment in 2006, they are becoming more common in scientific literature.
