Born in Carson, California to Ernest Sutton Jr. and his wife Yvonne, Ernest Sutton III was an active child. A fun loving spirit, Ernie was extremely active in multiple sports throughout his high school career. He was a wide receiver on the football team, the point guard for the school basketball team, and even spent time as a keeper for his high school's soccer team. Throughout most of his life, however, wrestling never played a significant role until Jared James, who was currently under contract for Connecticut Forum Wrestling, saw the young man at a local football game. James had heard of this three sport superstar, and approached Sutton following the game about coming to Des Moines, Iowa with the promise that he would turn the young man into a wrestling phenomena.

- Ernie Sutton was the father of Monica and Jenny. In May 1968 he arrived for the wedding of daughter Jenny when she married Dennis Tanner. Ernie didn't pay for the wedding as he'd already paid for Monica's wedding that month, favouring her over Jenny as she was marrying a bank manager.

A fun loving spirit, Ernie was extremely active in multiple sports throughout his high school career. After much debate, Ernie Sutton and his parents both agreed that a move to Des Moines, Iowa would be the most beneficial thing for the young man moving forward as it would provide him with some income as Ernie worked in Jared's regional chain of fitness centers. So in 2008, at the age of eighteen and following his high school graduation, Ernie Sutton packed his things and moved out to Iowa where Jared James would train him in the fine art of professional wrestling. It would be nearly three years until Jared James gave Ernie his seal of approval, and instead of opting to work in Jared James's Colorado-based Rocky Mountain PRO Sutton decided to go on his own away from his mentor to make a name for himself in early 2011.

Ernie didn't pay for the wedding as he'd already paid for Monica's wedding that month, favouring her over Jenny as she was marrying a bank manager. Five years later, Dennis was sent to Pentonville Prison for conning old age pensioners after posing as a salesman and was given a two-year sentence. Ernie supported Jenny's decision to make a fresh start as she'd been blind to what Dennis had been up to and now wanted nothing to do with him. Dennis's mother Elsie came to visit Ernie in London after seeing Dennis and started to blame Jenny, believing she must have known about Dennis's dealings, but Ernie defended his daughter and blamed all of Dennis's bad deeds on Elsie, stating that she hadn't always been the best mother to him.
