- Staff Commander Shepard ist der menschliche Protagonist der Mass Effect-Trilogie. Vorname, Geschlecht und Aussehen können während der Profilwiederherstellung angepasst werden. Man wählt außerdem aus jeweils drei möglichen Vorgeschichten und psychologischen Profilen je eines aus. Diese Wahl hat Einfluss auf den Spielverlauf. Alternativ zur kompletten Charaktergenerierung stehen für beide Geschlechter auch jeweils ein fertiger "Standard-Shepard" zur Auswahl. Beide sind Soldaten mit dem Profil "Von der Erde" und "Einziger Überlebender", der männliche Protagonist heißt mit Vornamen John, der weibliche Jane.
- Commander Shepard cameoed in MySims SkyHeroes as a playable pilot. He also appears in MySims Galaxy, MySims Galactic Quest and MySims Nova.
- Commander Shepard is the lead character in the Mass Effect trilogy. Shepard can actually be customized however you see fit at the beginning of each game, as you guide him/her through the galaxy. Shepard made the Summer 2008 Contest, finishing last against Sonic, Sandbag, and Magus. He returned in the Winter 2010 Contest, managing to defeat Ellis before falling to Pikachu. He returned for the Summer 2013 Contest, getting an easy first round win over Captain Olimar and Kain, followed by a close (and big) victory over Aerith Gainsborough and Tharja in round 2, making his first third round appearance in contest history. However, he was a mere sideshow in the third round due to being the "third wheel" in the infamous Link vs. Draven match.
- Commander Shepard is the former Human commander (and shortly before this, the lieutenant commander before the forced retirement of Commander David Anderson) of the SSV Normandy as well as the first Human Spectre.
- Commander Shepard appears in MySims SkyHeroes as a playable pilot. He is unlocked from the beginning and you can play as him in Single Player races and dogfights, or in multi-player games.
- The games protagonist of Mass Effect franchise is Commander Shepard, who, in true BioWare fashion, is customizable right down to their sex, a human Systems Alliance Marine and a graduate of the N7 special forces program whose gender, appearance and outlook are determined by the player. In the first game, Shepard is selected to be the first human Spectre, an elite agent of the Council. After stumbling upon a Prothean beacon and Saren's plans, Shepard sets out on a quest to stop Saren and save the galaxy from his attempts to bring back the Reapers.

- Alan Shepard was the source of the character's name. Shepard's armor developed over the series, and was originally intended to be red-and-white. Though both genders were given equal importance during development, marketing felt there was a need for a single identifiable hero for promotion of the game. Various merchandise has been made, including several figurines. Shepard has appeared in cameo appearances in other Electronic Arts games, though they will not be appearing in any future Mass Effect ones.
