Mirumoto Zurugu was a bushi member of the Dragon Clan. Bitter and angry at the world, he retired as Zuguru, a Four Temples monk of the High House of Light. He studied patiently, waiting his turn to become a member of the ise zumi. When Hitomi became Dragon Clan Champion, it became clear to Zurugu that he would not be given that right, and he left the mountains in disgust. He eventually fell in with Yoritomo Utawa, leader of the Cult of the Destroyer in Rokugan, and Zurugu embraced the Cult for no reason other than that he could be a powerful member within it. Zurugu maintained the Temple of the Destroyer in a small island near the Mantis Islands. In 1133 his cell was destroyed by a group of samurai acting under orders from Otomo Banu.
