Layman is a minor character appearing in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. He was a mid-ranking gangster of the Family. He was very similar to Professor Layton in clothing (mainly the top hat), the way of speaking and name. However, he was quite short in comparison to Layton. He said that people are judged by their way of fashion, however Bostro gave him the post in the alleyway, since he was literally below his boss's notice. He was found in the alley on the way into Chinatown, and later on in the game, during the shootout, defending himself with a chair.

- Georgio U.u. Layman was a fairly unknown Italian philosopher. His lack of fame has been contributed often by being overshadowed by his contemporaries that worked along the same lines or in the same fields. Some, on the other hand, believe that Layman never published his works and therefore did not receive the credit that could have accompanied his work. While there are a myriad of arguments that could be made in favor of any of these reasons, they are both false. Georgio U.u Layman was indeed overshadowed by his contemporary coworkers and he also never actually published any of his works, but these are by far the least probable reasons for his lack of notoriety. The real reason Layman never took off in the top of the philosophical arts was that he was 'kind of 'special.

- A layman or dilettante was a person who possessed no accreditation in or advanced knowledge of a particular field. In 2369, Professor Richard Galen referred to Jean-Luc Picard as a dilettante rather than a true scholar of archaeology. (TNG: "The Chase" ) While cross-examining Doctor Julian Bashir that year, Ilon Tandro referred to himself as a layman in relation to the field of medicine. (DS9: "Dax") In 2371, pleased by Kes' curiosity about anatomy and physiology, The Doctor gave her several medical texts to study, cautioning her that they weren't written for laymen. (VOY: "Eye of the Needle")

(DS9: "Dax") In 2371, pleased by Kes' curiosity about anatomy and physiology, The Doctor gave her several medical texts to study, cautioning her that they weren't written for laymen. (VOY: "Eye of the Needle") Later that year, he likewise cautioned Tuvok when the Vulcan asked for a copy of his neurological analysis of Tom Paris calling the report "virtually indecipherable" to the layman. (VOY: "Ex Post Facto") In 2372, based on his home, Garak characterized Julian Bashir's character from the holoprogram Julian Bashir, Secret Agent as "some kind of rich dilettante with a fascination for women and weapons". Bashir denied it, saying his character was really a spy. (DS9: "Our Man Bashir")
