Companion Reaction Syndrome (CRS) was a destructive psychological condition that came as a result of first contact with the Taelons. The arrival of the alien species challenged the belief systems of millions across the planet Earth which led to an abberant condition which ranged from mild depression and confusion to mass suicides that tended to only manifest amongst groups of people rather than individuals. It was believed that the condition had passed until a number of mass deaths occured in a small Amish community which was reported to William Boone by Amish doctor Elijah Good. (Episode: To Float Like a Butterfly)

  • Companion Reaction Syndrome or CRS is a condition that began to affect Humans after the Taelons arrived on Earth. Typically, it is suffered by those whose belief systems have been called into question by the knowledge that there is other intelligent life. Symptoms frequently include depression and anxiety and, in many cases, suicide is the result. CRS is most often found in groups of people and there have been mass suicides.

When mysterious suicides began to occur at the Amish settlement of Paradise, William Boone suspected there might be a case of CRS at work. In fact, the suicides were caused by exposure to the "Scarecrow Probe."
