For the latter, one of his supervising editors was Tom Benko, who later edited multiple episodes of Star Trek: Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. After 1984's The Ice Pirates (starring Mary Crosby and Ron Perlman), Hoy worked as assistant editor under Neil Travis on 1985's Marie. Hoy and Travis went on to collaborate on Hoy's first film as a lead editor, the 1987 thriller No Way Out (starring Iman and Leon Russom). Hoy and Travis worked together again on the Academy Award-winning Dances with Wolves (starring Charles Rocket), the 1992 political thriller Patriot Games, and the 1995 sci-fi thriller Outbreak. Hoy's other editing credits include Best of the Best (1989, starring Louise Fletcher), Sliver (1993, featuring Jim Beaver and Keene Curtis), The Man in the Iron Mask (1998, featuring Benito Martinez and Maury Sterling), The Bone Collector (1999, starring Leland Orser), We Were Soldiers (2002, for which he was also associate producer), I, Robot (2004, starring James Cromwell), Fantastic Four (2005), and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). He was also an additional editor on such as Se7en (1995) and The Passion of the Christ (2004). Hoy worked with director Zack Snyder as assistant editor on 2004's Dawn of the Dead and as lead editor on the 2006 blockbuster 300. His collaboration with Snyder continued with Watchmen, the hit film based on the acclaimed DC Comics title which stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Matt Frewer, and Stephen McHattie.
