The Capstan Hammer was a massive mechanism that was cranked by the crew aboard the Flying Dutchman to awaken the Kraken and center its pursuit on a nearby ship. It was only used on enemies of Davy Jones who did not bear the Black Spot, with the exception of Jack Sparrow who owned the Black Pearl, the only ship to outrun the Dutchman. When the Kraken perished at the behest of the East India Trading Company, the Hammer remained on the ship. It could still turn, but was inoperable, as seen in the Battle of Calypso's maelstrom.

  • The Capstan Hammer was a massive mechanism that was cranked by the crew aboard the Flying Dutchman to awaken the Kraken and center its pursuit on a nearby ship. It was only used on enemies of Davy Jones who did not bear the Black Spot, with the exception of Jack Sparrow who owned the Black Pearl, the only ship to outrun the Dutchman. When Will Turner escaped from the Dutchman, Davy Jones called for his crew to turn the hammer and release the Kraken. It was operated by nine of Jones' crewmen; Angler, Clanker, Greenbeard, Maccus, Old Haddy, Palifico, Ratlin, Two Head and Wheelback. The leviathan destroyed the nearby Edinburgh Trader, and was later unleashed against the Black Pearl. When the Kraken perished at the behest of the East India Trading Company, the Hammer remained on the ship. It could still turn, but was inoperable, as seen in the Battle of Calypso's maelstrom.
