Andy Warhol was shot on June 3, 1968 radical feminist writer Valerie Solanas. She also shot Mario Amaya, an art critic, at the same time. Warhol was seriously wounded by the attack and almost died from it: surgeons had to opened his chest and massage his heart to help stimulate its movement again. He suffered physical effects for the rest of his life, including being required to wear a surgical corset. The shooting profoundly effected Warhol's life and art.
