- Reynald de Chatillon (1125 - 1187) was a rogue French knight and notorious pirate that served in the Second Crusade. He remained in the Holy Land after its defeat and later became aligned with the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Notably, he defeated Saladin's army at the Battle of Montgisard in 1177. Unlike most of his prisoners, who were well-treated and often released, Saladin personally cut off Reynald's head with his own scimitar on July 4, 1187. Reynald de Chatillon appears briefly in the second mission of the Saladin campaign in Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, in which he's the main antagonist. His unit reappears in The Horns of Hattin, the third mission, in which he can be fought and killed. As with other hero units, Reynald de Chatillon is available in the Scenario Editor. He has the appearance of a Knight with a lance, and is affected by cavalry technologies but not civilization bonuses. As with all heroes, he can self regenerate and cannot be converted.
