Ultraviolent Egyptian terrorist group, dedicated to overthrowing existing regimes and creating an Islamic state. While this is their first action under this name, members of this group have been involved in a number of Islamic militant actions, including the 1999 massacre at Giza in which 68 tourists were slain. These groups, all originally members of the Gama'at al-Islamiyya (Islamic Associations) student and religious movement, have become increasingly violent and less predictable as their senior leaders are arrested or killed.
