Bush was innugurated on January 20th 2001. During his Innuguration many Americans came out to protest the results of the 2000 Election. Protesters pelted bush's limo with eggs and started a small riot at the Innuguration. To make matters worse the former Clinton staffers had looted the White House of office supplies during the ceromony. It was not a good start to his presidentcy. For the rest of the year it did not go well for President Bush. He was unable to get legislation passed, get his judeges appointed and his administration suffered a major blow when his party lost control of the senate, when Senator Jim Jeffords a Republican switched parties and gave the Democrats a majority. In September Bush attempted to push for education reform, and was met with oppistion by both Democrats and Republicans. In 2002 Bush's inteligents officials report that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction. Bush attempted to make his case at the U.N and was unsuccessful. When weapons inspectors ivestigated the country they were unable to find proof of what the U.S was claiming. Despite the oppistion from the U.N, Bush attempted to use military action, but was met with harsh oppisition from congress. In the 2002 mid terms Bush's party saw huge loses as he lost control of the House of Represntatives and saw huge gains for the Democrats in the Senate. 2003 remaind a very quiet year for the Bush presidency. He passed a stimulas package that produced very little results for the economy. And continued to slip into reccsion. The unemployment rate stood at 7.3%. In 2004 Bush ran against Senator Paul Wellstone and Speaker of the House Dick Gibheart. Bush was defeated only carring 198 electoral votes to Wellstones 340. He left office unpopular and with little to no achivements made during his presidentcy.
