Osami Murata was a Japanese radio man from Tokyo who was relocated to Hawaii, after its occupation by Japan, at the KGMB studio, and broadcast radio propaganda describing how life was "better" under the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Murata worked with local Japanese immigrant Jiro Takahashi in the radio show broadcasting interviews on his life and how it had improved under the Japanese. This led to Takahashi gaining a level of local celebrity with people referring to him as "The Fisherman" or "Mr. Fisherman".
