The Fatimid-Abbasid Border Conflicts were a range of (usually low-level) battles and skirmishes starting in the 1020's AD between the Abbasid Caliphate based in Baghdad and the Fatimid Caliphate based by this time in Cairo. Due to the nature of the Fatimid Dynasty being created on top of what used to be Abbasid territory, it had always remained a prime target for recapturing. By 1025, the front line had been drawn across the desert south west of Baghdad, causing the conflict to cost resources and lives for little reward.

The Second Crusade starting in 1027 and ending in 1053 would give the Fatimids breathing space as the Abbasids were too tied up defending their northern territories.
