- Magic/Ranged is a common method of killing these creatures since they will not attempt to close in the distance to Melee, thus rendering the character invulnerable as long as they keep their dragonfire protection (with both an antifire potion AND an anti-dragon shield). Melee users are recommended to use the Protect from Melee prayer, as they can hit very hard. Their defence is also high , so ranged (with range boosting prayers/potions), magic, or a stabbing weapon like the Zamorakian hasta are effective in taking them out.
- Iron dragons are dragons whose scales are made of iron, hence the name. As with all dragons, they breathe fire and can easily deal forty or more damage if players do not take precautions to protect from the dragons' fiery attacks. Players should bring an anti-dragon shield or dragonfire shield, though praying protect from magic will negate some of the damage the player can take from the flames. The dragon has strong melee attacks, however, so using armour with high defence bonuses is important. It is advisable to bring prayer potions or super restore potions to keep your prayer from running out.
