Note on the name: The uprisings in Chinese East Africa were not a single cohesive movement, but rather several different factions and alliances. The largest was led by Curu Gacara, called the United Peoples of Africa (U.P.A). The U.P.A primairly consisted of the Kĩkũyũ, Luhya and Kamba peoples.
