A triglyceride (TG, triacylglycerol, TAG, or triacylglyceride) is an ester derived from glycerol and three fatty acids. As a blood lipid, it helps enable the bidirectional transference of adipose fat and blood glucose from the liver. There are many triglycerides: depending on the oil source, some are highly unsaturated, some less so.

  • Lipids or fats circulating in the blood. An excess of them interferes with the binding of insulin to the proper cells, in the case of diabetes, and causes insulin resistance, thwarting regulation. Hyperlipidemia is another term for too many lipids, or fats, circulating in the blood. They usually occur because of the hormonal imbalances associated with Cushing's Disease and hypothyroidism; treating them reduces the excess circulating lipids. Miniature schnauzers as a breed are prone to this condition spontaneously with no underlying disease.

Anticholesterol medication, as humans take, is also available.
