In 1956 the Suez Crisis saw Britain's status as superpower end, although it continued to be a powerful nation in international relations, having one of the largest economies in the world and possessing substantial military capabilities being a nuclear weapons state. It is also a member of the G8, G7, G20, Council of Europe, IOSS, OSCE, WTO, and is the leading member of the Commonwealth of Nations.
