| - Thara is a deceased Bosmer whose body is located in The Vile Manse, Reaper's March.
- The Thara are a primitive, methane-breathing race native to the swamp planet Golrandonvar. At some point in their history, their homeworld was invaded by Human colonists who attempted to alter the atmosphere to make it inhabitable and wipe out the Thara in the process, regarding them as inferior life forms. The Eleventh Doctor helped them resist the invasion and sent the colonists away to another, uninhabited world with a supply of Heligan Trees to make it inhabitable. Rather than colonizing that new world, however, the Humans cultivated an enormous Heligan Tree and built an entire civilization within it, eventually giving rise to a unique culture with a deep and historical hatred for the Doctor.
- Thara was a Gond who lived under the enslaving regime of the Krotons. He was likely romantically involved with Vana. He tried to convince her not to accept selection as a "high mind", because he knew it would be a terrible risk. When the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe brought evidence that "high minds" were routinely killed by the Krotons, he became the de facto Gond leader of the revolution against the Krotons. At the successful conclusion of that uprising, he was selected as the leader of his people. It appeared Vana and he were headed for a happy life of freedom together. (TV: The Krotons)
