Standard operating formations consisted of: * an element of two aircraft, the lead pilot and his wingman, * a flight consisting of a pair of elements, * a squadron consisting of four flights. Early in the Second Great War, Major Jonathan Moss commanded a squadron, first on the Ohio front and which later was transferred to the Virginia front.
