He also appeared in a 1985 episode of The Brothers McGregor. He became an actor in 1975 and prior to his appearances in Coronation Street his work was mainly on the stage in parts such as Oedipus, Claudius in Hamlet and Rochester in Jane Eyre. His television debut was as a fire chief in the daytime soap The Practice.
