abstract
  • The Treaty of Zurich was the document that offically ended the war between the Napoleonic France and Hapsburg Austria. The treaty was negotiated in the small city of Zürich, in the Swiss Confederation, and signed on March 17, 1806. The treaty stipulated that Austria was to renounce all claims on Italy, which was later created into its own, united state. In return, France gave Austria a open hand on the Turkish controlled Balkans, and Austria later annexed Wallachia and parts of Transylvania during the Turkish Civil War. Another clause of the treaty gave France the right to march troops through Bohemia, Moravia and Hungary to reach the Duchy of Warsaw, which later was turned into a full fledged alliance.
