| - Fredrikstad-class shuttlecarriers (sometimes called supercarriers) were a class of Federation Starfleet vessel on active duty beginning in the early 2290s. Fredrikstads were similar in appearance and purpose to the Ariel-class shuttlecarriers first commissioned in 2278 (Heavy Cruiser Evolution Blueprints, Ships of the Star Fleet, Volume 1 (Revised)). This class, introduced in 2286, was grouped as a dreadnought (Starbase23.net ). At least six vessels of this class entered service: USS Fredrikstad (Ships of the Star Fleet, Volume 1 (Revised)), USS Malverne. (Star Trek: Malverne: "Police Action"; Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Pomp and Circumstantial Evidence"; Star Trek: Avenger: "The Road Goes Ever On", "To Everything There is a Season"), USS Ranger (Starfleet International: Scott A. Akers, et al., Master Genealogy: Starfleet Region 12), USS Zhukov, USS Julius Caesar and USS George Washington. Three ships of this class — USS Zhukov, USS Julius Caesar and USS George Washington — might not exist in the same continuity as the George Washington-class space control ships. The names Zhukov, Julius Caesar and George Washington may have been assigned to Fredrikstad class hulls when funding for the George Washington class wasn't authorized.
