* After Peter fixes television, he watches Mike & Molly with Joe and Quagmire.
* At the end of the episode, Herbert asks for the titular stars of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody to perform this show in their underwear. The show went off the air four years prior to "Ratings Guy" airing.
* This episode is similar to the ALF episode "Prime Time" where the Tanners themselves became a ratings family and ALF himself rigged the system to make his programs more enjoyable.

** J.J. Abrams creates a show about an alien going back in time and encountering a koala bear in an Eastern-European town.
** Four men create 15 workplace comedies where people talk to the camera for some reason.
** Mark Burnett creates a reality show where people pull down their pants for a nickel, which Peter does.
** Two men do a show about horrible New Jersey freaks.
** Dick Wolf does the same Law & Order six times.
** The men from Bravo do a show about women fighting.
** Everyone else makes a talent show.
* The uncensored version includes a scene of Peter getting a haircut from Bruce, who shaves a misshapen, deformed penis into the back of his head. When Peter questions it, Bruce runs out crying, noting that some people have had an accident.
* Cary Elwes would respond to his lampooning by appearing at the offices of Family Guy the following day with a response letter for Peter.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ms7DFcA-80#t=91
