Bertie Jonathon Samels (1884-14 February 1963) Born in Hammersmith, he was the son of Abel Samwels, a commercial clerk, and his wife Elizabeth. By 1911 he had his own business as a retail grocer in Battersea. Mayor of Hammersmith 1926-29. Freeman of Hammersmith. Municipal Reform Party member of the London County Council elected 1925 1928 1931 1934 1937-46 Hammersmith South. Chairman of the London and Home Counties Joint Electricity Authority from 1933. Samels' Court is named after him [1].
