After a contest about 64 kilometers in the hilly Limburg countryside she defeated Jenny Das from Belgium in a sprint à deux. The World Championships in Valkenburg, Netherlands were for very successful, because apart from the Brown won a Gold Medal: five Dutch Jan Raas, Diana van Oosten-Hage, Bert Oosterbosch, Ma Pan and Martin Venix. By her performance was de Bruin in 1979 elected female athlete of the year.
