The most notable new feature if the RG1550 compared to the RG550 it replaced is the new Edge Pro tremolo bridge. The RG1550 also features a basswood body with a maple Super Wizard neck with a 24-fret maple fingerboard with dot position markers. It has dual Ibanez Vintage humbucking pickups flanking an Ibanez single-coil which are mounted on a black pickguard. Other components include a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines. The RG1550 was discontinued after 2004. The RG550 lineage was revived with the RG1550M in 2009.
