- The Gunship (スターシップ Sutāshippu?, Starship in Japan) is Samus's ship that appears throughout the Metroid series. Her trusty starship is there when Samus needs to ride around the galaxy. She uses it as a resting place to regain health and save game data. The front of it also appears to be based on the design of the front of her helmet.

- The term gunship described a variety of vessels. The term was used for small troop deployment and attack carriers or for small capital ships. The capital ship variety was generally heavily armed for its size and built explicitly for ship-to-ship engagements, while the smaller variety generally combined infantry deployment and close combat support for ground forces.

- The 'Gunship' is a unique enemy (unnamed in game) that is featured in Blood Omen 2. It is encountered only once, patrolling part of the waters in Chapter 10:the Wharves, particularly defending those around the Southern Docks, where ships were headed to the Hylden City . The ship behaves similarly to an enemy character, patrolling the last part of the Wharves and attacking Kain on sight. When Kain strayed too close to the Gunship, the turret on the ship would lock onto Kain and shoot 'fire arrows' at him, at roughly double the rate of the Sarafan Archers[BO2].
