Jessa second floor of the old factor house was one of eighteen villagers who lived in an isolated, badly run-down hamlet, of which Barathol Mekhar was the unofficial leader. The village was located about three days travel due south of the city Ahol Tapur in Seven Cities. A second woman named 'Jessa', who also lived in the village, was referred to as Jessa last house on the east road by the villagers, in order to indicate which of the 'two Jessas' they meant.
