The city is the location of Stantonshire University, Beluzia's most popular tertiary institution, however radicals in its alumni often find themselves in conflict with the Karav dynasty. During anti-Blue riots, fights broke out between Stanton loyalists and Karav loyalists. After a UFO sighting in 3332, the city was under military lockdown and quarintine was enforced. When the situation was over, bodybags carried members of the Stanton House out of the city, along with fake voting machines allegedly used to assist the Blue Coalition with election fraud. The city has been locked down several times before, under Karav rule, but never quarintined like in 3332. The Karav family has been accused of biases against the city, but such claims were denied by both the Karav family and Karav loyalists living in Negunia.
