James A. Naismith (November 6,1861- November 29,1939) was an Canadian-American inventor/Head coach/ and collegiate instructor. Naismith invented the game of basketball in December 1891. The Basketball Hall of Fame was named in his honor. Born in Canada to Scottish immigrants, Naismith studied physical education at McGill University before moving to America.
