Sweden's Personal Data Act (1998:204) was enacted on April 29, 1998, and came into effect on October 24, 1998. It replaced the out-dated Swedish Data Act 1973. The Personal Data Act is based on the European Union's Directive 95/46/EC, which aims to prevent the violation of personal integrity in the processing of personal data. The Data Inspection Board is the supervisory authority under the Act.
