  • Satire aims to make people laugh. Satire points out things that are bad also things that should change while we laugh.
  • In satire, human or individual vices, follies, abuses, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of ridicule, derision, burlesque, irony, or other methods, ideally with the intent to bring about improvement. Although satire is usually meant to be funny, the purpose of satire is not primarily humor in itself so much as an attack on something of which the author strongly disapproves, using the weapon of wit.
  • Satire, not necessarily connected with Satanism, is a form of humor characterized by not being funny but still extremely orange — that is, to the ordinary, sane individual. The word satire was originally derived from the word sadism, or finding pleasure in the misery of others. Hence, satire is finding humor in the suffering and tragedy of the world around oneself. Great satire is really unfunny, and quite unsavory: witness Eating Babies. Satire was invented by Chad in 1984. Satirists of yesteryear generally had crooked noses. However, thanks to the Internest, the modern satirist can safely inflict satire with little chance of incurring physical harm. However, by no means is the Internest a defense against any harm if said satirist is tracked down by rabid offended persons.

The methods employed include ridicule, derision, burlesque, parody, exaggeration, juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre. A very common, almost defining feature of satire is its strong vein of irony or sarcasm. Often, the author professes to approve (or at least accept as natural) the very things the satirist actually wishes to attack.

If an Italian gentleman were to be confronted with a rubber tire, perhaps one which has fallen from a motor vehicle, he might exclaim "Satire", with an Italian accent. However, would a german gentleman be confronted with a rubber dildo, perhaps one which has fallen off his belt, he might exclaim "Sadism/Masochism", with an German accent. Satire like all art forms was originated in 1982 by yodelling lesbians. Yodelling tailgaters by nature are odd, but in an innocent way. Tomorrow satire will explode. Will you?

Although satire is usually meant to be funny, this is not always the case. The purpose of satire is not primarily humour in itself so much as an attack on something of which the author strongly disapproves, using the weapon of wit. Because satire often combines anger and humour it can be profoundly disturbing. Because it is essentially ironic or sarcastic, it is often misunderstood. Common uncomprehending responses to satire include revulsion (accusations of poor taste, or that "it's just not funny" for instance), and the idea that the satirist actually does support the ideas, policies, or people he is attacking. Because satire criticises in an ironic, essentially indirect way, it frequently escapes censorship in a way more direct criticism might not. Periodically, however, it runs into serious opposition: people in power who perceive themselves as attacked attempt to censor it, or prosecute its practitioners.
