The Goniatitia comprises late Paleozoic Ammonoidea with a basic suture of 8 lobes and a prochoanitic suture, one in which the septal necks point toward the aperture and living chamber. Shells (conchs) are generally small, discoidal to globose in form. Sutures are mostly goniatitc with smooth saddles and lobes. Two suborders are included, the Goniatitina with 16 superfamilies and the Tornoceratina with five Superfamilies.
