Inklings (Japanese: インクリング Inkuringu) are customizable characters that players take control of within the games Splatoon and Splatoon 2. Inklings live in Inkopolis. As the main protagonists, they don't die, and instead easily respawn after being "splatted." When first starting the game, the player is given the option to choose between genders (boy and girl), eye colours, and skin colours. These can be changed later from the Options menu. They also have no bones. Inklings are said to have some kind of gene that allows them to see certain colors in certain ways.

They made Mushroom Kingdom a whole mess. Mario decided to kill them by pouring water on them. The female and male Inklings managed to survive Mario's torture. But despite that, Mario forgived them and he gave them some Spaghetti.
  • When Sora asked the White Rabbit if he knew something about Alice, he said that he only remembers that he glanced at his watch and knew he was late to the trial. After telling this, the White Rabbit ran away and left another Inkling behind for Sora. When Sora approaches a card soldier, he tells Sora that he made a big mistake: he planted white roses instead of red ones and gives Sora the Queen of Hearts Inkling as a reward for helping him. The soldier then asks Sora if he knows where he can find some paint, but Sora leaves without answering the soldier's question.
