On November 4, 2008, the Republican ticket of John McCain/Tim Pawlenty surprisingly managed to pull a close victory over the strong campaign of the Barack Obama/Joe Biden ticket of the Democratic Party. McCain was trailing Obama by double digits on the opinion polls, and Obama had also won all of the presidential debates with McCain, while Biden had won the Vice Presidential debate.
