After being a fan of Gallagher's previous band, Taste, Peel followed his career throughout the rest of the 70s. On 11 October 1978, he appeared very enthusiastic about Rory's "Photo-Finish" LP, saying that he sat down and listened to twice straight through. All of the LPs recorded by Gallagher were found in his record collection.

Credits include roles in Shameless, In the Flesh, Peaky Blinders and The Caravan. On stage he has appeared in productions of The Revengers Tragedy, The Ash Girl, Oh! What a Lovely War and Borstal Boy.

Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, and raised in Cork, Gallagher recorded solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, after forming the band Taste during the late 1960s. He was a talented guitarist known for his charismatic performances and dedication to his craft. Gallagher's albums have sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide. Gallagher received a liver transplant in 1995, but died of complications later that year in London, UK at the age of 47.
